My Story

“I dream for a world in which every single one of us knows clearly who we truly are, our life’s purpose, and live a deeply fulfilling, free and authentic life without fear.”

Because of this dream, I became a life coach. I see it as my calling in this world to help others find their life’s purpose, and live a fulfilling life without regret. Below is the story of my journey:

The Sensible Career Choice

As a child, I remember wanting to be a teacher when I grow up. Later, it was to be a doctor.

In high school, as I excelled in accounting, I chose to become a Chartered Accountant (CA) upon the recommendation of many well-meaning relatives and teachers.

Hence, I planned my sensible career path as follows:

Study finance & accounting at the top university in the country
Serve my articles at one of the big 4 accounting firms
Qualify as a CA
Become a CFO

I achieved the first 3 goals with total focus and relative ease. After qualifying as a CA, I joined the corporate world and working steadily towards my final goal of becoming a CFO. The company was awesome, colleagues were wonderful, my role was interesting, the pay was great and the potential was promising. On the surface, life was peaceful, stable & looking good!

The Crisis & Epiphany

As the years go by, the ambition of becoming a CFO seemed less and less appealing. Instead, a sense of emptiness set in and grew stronger and stronger. When my friends around me were still working fervently towards or already became a CFO, I just cannot summon enough energy or focus to propel myself towards that goal. It just does NOT interest me! I thought there must be something seriously wrong with me! I felt confused, but not sure what to do, it lingered on but was bearable, so I suppressed that feeling until the birth of my son brought on the urgency to re-examine my life, for a need to live a more fulfilling and meaningful life.

However, this sense of urgency just lived in my head for months without much forward momentum or solution. This is when I decided to see a life coach to help me find a solution (upon the suggestion of my wise husband who was seeing a coach and benefited from the experience). Being an accountant, I am skeptical in nature, it took me a few months to do tons of research to feel comfortable with this novel idea of life coaching and another few months to find a coach that I feel will resonate with me. I found her! A chartered accountant turned life coach; she was very gentle yet insightful. She asked such powerful questions that empowered me to find myself. Just 3 sessions, I was able to have a clear look at my true self which I was unable to do on my own after more than a decade! She used the analogy that I was an apple tree among orange trees, that’s why becoming a CFO was of no interest to me and there was nothing wrong with me. It was a huge light bulb moment for me!

Choosing the Alternative Path

The profound impact continued in the days after I left the last coaching session and one day I had another epiphany! “Why not become a coach?” popped into my mind while I was in the middle of a meeting. Having understood myself better, I examined the various aspects of being a life coach and how it fits in with my interests and natural talents as well as the ability to work anywhere anytime was very appealing to me. Having benefited immensely from the power of coaching, I felt I would be able to help other people in similar situation as me and help them find their apple tree self (Apple Tree Story). So, I researched more about how to become a coach and decided to give it a try to see if it was really what I wanted to do.

Testing the Water

I loved it! I felt more energetic and happy when I was coaching & that happiness spills over to all other areas of my life, it makes me more creative; patient and loving.

Unfolding of my journey

After qualifying as a certified ILS life coach and deciding to become a professional coach, life seems to take over from there, and I was utterly terrified and surprised as to where I was led to!

Firstly, I was lead to learn and qualify as a Reiki Master (energy healing) and soon after that, reading the Akashic records (the library hosting all the past and future choices of our eternal soul) all for me to continue understand the mystery of our purpose on Earth. Spirituality was never something I was focusing on and as an accountant, becoming a life coach was already a stretch for me, but embracing modern spirituality (the so-called woo-woo stuff) as part of my calling was another huge test on my journey. I was terrified as to what my family, friends and past colleagues would think of me, I tormented myself for months until I finally muster up enough courage to step into the world again and announce that I am now also a spiritual counsellor…because, this is part of who I am!

I now combine all these modalities in my work to help others know their purpose deeply at both a spiritual and human level…I know, there is more to come and I can’t wait to witness the continual unfolding my own purpose.

Although, I didn’t exactly become a teacher or doctor, but I am back on the right path, as the essence is the same i.e. to empower and heal other people & the journey has just begun!

My Advice

When your heart calls, take action! You can ignore, suppress or distract yourself for only so long.
Maybe your life situation might not allow you to go full on at the moment, but even doing 1% is better than doing nothing.
Have the courage to dream and experiment. Life is a journey and full of trial and error. We will never know our final destination in terms of how we ultimately express our true self in the world, but it doesn’t matter. What matters is that we follow the clues & passions.
